iPod Issue - converts audio files to data

My iPod has been converting all of my audio files to data files when i dont request it to do that. Any clue what might cause this?

Can you be more specific about the types of files? What are the file extensions before and after?

Are you just copying the files to the ipod through windows explorer? It won’t recognize those files as music if you do that. You have to sync it through a player like Itunes.

I am not sure how to check on the file extensions that are on my iPod. I have iTunes, so the songs are originally put onto the iPod in whatever format iTunes uses. The rub is that every once in a while, I plug my iPod in, and it looks like it is synching up, but when it is finished the status bar is all orange (signifying data files). If i go into my iPod it shows that I have no music, but I am still using 33 gigs of my 40 gig iPod.

iTunes does not convert files for the iPod (unless you’re using a Shuffle, and even then it just converts to a 128kbps AAC if you check that option).

Just a guess here, but do you have a location selected for syncing photos? It might be syncing a lot of photos and using space? Though I think photos are yellow, not orange on the “full meter” icon in iTunes.

Also, what kind of iPod is it (touch? classic? Nano? 3G? 5G?) and are you running on a Windows machine or a Mac?

Thanks for th input everyone. I am getting an iMac today though, so i think my problems should end with that. I have been using a shitty windows computer and i think that is the problem
