I have an iPod shuffle, but no CD for installing it or instructions. Is there a way to get this thing to work? I know how to plug it into my computer but after that I’m lost.
Thanks.
You didn’t get the iTunes install CD? I assume it’s a used Shuffle then, yes? Just go and download iTunes from iTunes.com.
I won it in a raffle a couple of months ago. I can’t find the instructions now and I don’t remember a CD coming with it. I still have the light green box, but that’s it. My desktop doesn’t have enough memory, but my laptop did an automatic Windows update, which made the audio not work. So I downloaded iTunes from the website onto the laptop, followed the instructions to “import” songs, which it looked like it did, but I don’t know where. The lights on the iPod blink green and yellow but I can’t play anything. It might be a battery problem, but I can’t figure any of this out without instructions. Nothing is labeled on the stupid thing. God, I wish I had won a massage or a free dinner instead of this frustrating piece of crap.
instructions available here
Quickstart:
Plug in the shuffle.
Highlight the shuffle on the left pane (if it isn’t already).
Hit ‘Autofill’ button on the bottom of the screen…wait until it has gotten filled up (center screen up at the top will say “iPod is updating” or “iPod update is complete”
Wait at least 4 hours to charge battery.
Unplug, put earphones in and on.
Move switch on back 1 click for 1,2,3,4,5… continuous play or 2 clicks for shuffle play.
Wait 5 seconds for the thing to go through its startup.
Hit the “> ll” button on the front.
Volume up/down is +/-
With standard settings that should work.
The shuffle is a neat little toy, once you learn it, that is. 12 hours of play, lots of space, stylish and it sounds darn good too. works 100% better than the previous mp3 players I had.

What?
Jill Gat is having problems with an ipod shuffle?
This is distroying all my illusions of her as a fabulously computer savy brainiac, and I won’t hear of it.
Hell, I got a shuffle because I was sure the ipod would have me baffled and I am the very definition of ‘techno challenged’.
Once you get it set up I’m confident you’ll find it a delightful little toy. I really enjoy mine. Good luck to you.
