If you mean Afghanistan, because the Taliban harbored and encouraged our enemy, who killed many thousand of our innocent civilians. So we overthrew them, and are now attempting to get them set up as a better (albeit not perfect) government who does not harbor our enemies.
If you mean Iraq, we thought they were trying to get WMD and were generally violating the terms of the ceasefire they signed.
Because we are generally rich and successful, and much of the rest of the world is not.
