It is very possible that this subject may have been posted before and I couldn’t find it. I saw a brief discussion on this on Bill Moyers last night. From the website for Judicial Watch, a conservative organization:
If you are interested in seeing the map of the Iraqi oil fields and the list of “suitors,” check this out:
One of the most chilling aspects of these papers is that they were drawn up before the WTC was bombed.
What do you think this all means? Wasn’t the bombing of the WTC used as part of the excuse for the war? Why did we have plans before that to take over Iraqi oil fields?
Maybe I’m missing something. Maps like those appeared in the newspapers prior to the start of the war, as did details of who were seeking contracts with Iraq (i.e., those evil French, Germans and Russians).
It’s not credible because it’s from a conservative news source (WorldNedDaily)* quoting a conservative organization (Judicial Watch).
Heh-heh. Somehow, given the particular story, I’m guessing that the old rules will be amended. Please allow me to grin from ear-to-ear as my hypocrometer pegs. I read lefty nuts and righty nuts so don’t try to spin this back on me.
*So far, as far as I can tell, that’s the extent of it. Note, Jerry Falwell’s pic. on the banner.
I don’t think the maps and the list mean much. Iraq was a significant source of US oil imports at the time. I don’t see anything wrong in the US government collecting basic information about the Iraqi oil industry. Note that the “suitors” are all non-US companies. It appears to be a list of such firms doing or planning business with Iraq at the time.
Why was it important to us at that time (before the bombing of the WTC) who was buying Iraqi oil? I wasn’t aware that the maps and the list of “suitors” had been published previously. (I guess that explains the limited responses!)
Beagle, I don’t care for the WorldNetDaily either. My initial source was Bill Moyers. Why would conservative groups be so interested in exposing this information?
Wacko is a far more accurate description for worldnetaily than conservative, particualry the mutiple articles on how the EU/UN/Homosexuals are trying to take over the US.
Joseph Farah, the founder of WND, is a fundamentalist Christian of the worse sort, mixing homophobia, ignorance creationism along with some views that border on racism.
If you hadn’t noticed, the US and the Brits have been essentially quarantining S.H. in central Iraq since the eraly '90s. We’ve had a military presence enforcing the No Fly Zone that was part of the Gulf War I cease fire arrangement. I would be astounded if the gov’t didn’t have detailed maps of Iraq, as well as every country in the world of any consequence.
Actually, I saw the WND story and was thinking of posting it. I love posting conservative sites to make liberal arguments and vice versa. It makes people turn their heads sideways like confused dogs, and isn’t that cute?
I’m glad you found that Moyers has run the story. Moyers and WND, we’ll call it the Unlikely Duo Network.
To elaborate on what SimonX said (for those who didn’t follow the link), these maps are “internal documents” from the Cheney’s Energy Taks Force Group, dating back to spring 2001. The documents are obtained just recently based on a FOIA lawsuit against the White House, I think they got a hold on 40.000 documents in total. These maps has not been released before.
I believe that what has spurred an interest is that these documents and maps are very detailed in regard of the Iraqi oil industry, while the final report didn’t mention Iraq at all.
It’s impossible to make any judgement from this, at least not so far. But Iraq were an issue on its own in the WH prior to 9/11, including assessments that Iraq had WMDs.
Yep, these guys had their eye on the ball the whole time. Gotta protect the U.S.A. from Saddam’s non-existent WMDs.
Don’t worry about that Osama dude, you know, the one that’s noted for blowing stuff up, coz, like, he’s in Afghanistan and we’re trying to negotiate an oil pipeline with the Taliban.
