Iraq's Oil

Why don’t we just take their oil. We beat 'em up once and they are so hard up for money they’d be eager to sell

(OK so it was a stupid way to ask the question but whatever)

'cause it’s a really bad idea?
Also not very nice to just take stuff.

So it is a double helix. Big deal.

We can’t just take it. That would be stealing and make us just like them when they tried to gobble up Kuwait.

We can’t buy it from them because Sadaam will use the money to prop up his corupt government and buy dagerous toys from China or Russia.

I can imagine our relationship with the rest of the oil producing countries after a seizure of Iraqui oil assets would be less than great. And, they don’t need us as much as they did in the past.

Our Congress is considering legislation that would punish (through aid and armaments relationships) any country that participated in efforts to influence the price of oil (i.e., OPEC members). Right now I suspect this is one of the better ways for us to shoot ourselves in the foot as there is a burgeoning world market and there’s any number of folks out there who would like to call our bluff.

In case anyone has missed the message, while we’ve seen some increases here in the last few months, gas in the USA is cheap.

Why doesn’t the USA just use some of the tremendous reserves we have right here? There’s a lot that’s just not being pumped. We don’t even need the offshore stuff that’s being blocked by the conservationists. I know it’s not the “sweet” stuff the oil companies like so much, and it is considerably more expensive to refine, but I bet OPEC’s crude would soon get a lot cheaper.
Like beatle said, gas here is cheap.
