No Dropzone, it was I. I truly appreciated the sentiment expressed by the Brits, however, I couldn’t, although perhaps I should have, allow myself to praise the Bloody Brits without at least a reminder of the dark side of their politics.

You would, would you? Actually I’ve done quite a bit of study of the history of Ireland, and the centuries of abuse of the Irish by the Brits. How the British decided that a self-governed land was just right for colonization. How they subjugated a people and force them into virtual slavery in their own country.

Were you aware of how the Brits treated the men they caught during the Uprising of 1798? Somehow placing a burning bag of pitch on a man’s head and allowing the burning hot pitch to run down over his body strikes me as somewhat less than humane.

Want to talk about the hired thugs called the Black and Tan?

For nine centuries the Irish have endured abuse at the hands of the Brits. Run off their lands, had their names changed so look and sound more English. Sounds a lot like ethnic cleansing to me.

Perhaps you need to do a little studying Everton. But try to include more than just the conquerors version of history.

I’m just hoping I can get a word in before the thread gets closed.

I’m sure the Irish are sweetly innocent in the area of Irish-British politics. I doubt seriously the IRA, or whomever else has really been blowing up car bombs in downtown London for 20+ years. It’s just a plot to make the Irish look bad.

I’m sure you can think of something else to talk about.

And the current generation of Britons, and the current British government are to blame how, exactly?

Any more to blame than the current US government or US people for the treatment of Native Americans?

It’s stupefyingly naive to believe that ‘Britain leaving Ireland’ will end the problem. There are two groups of born-and-bred residents, whose extremes will not agree on the solution.

While I will not deny Britain’s shameful role in Irish politics in history, I will not accept that finger-pointing now does anything more than perpetuate bigotry and hatred.

Do you still hold all modern Germans responsible for Nazi war crimes? Are all Russians responsible for Stalin’s purges?
