Okay, I love it. It’s on right now and I’m totally digging it. And William Shatner is perfect in this role. He’s cheesy, it’s cheesy - I’m all over it. They even have the B class actors as the judging panel. I hope it holds up til the end!
Tonight was only the second time I have watched it, but it is so funny how dramatic it starts out. They even have the 2 sports casteresque guys doing a play by play during the preparation of the 5 dishes. I was glad that the challenging chef chose American chef Todd English (because I think he is so handsome). I love crab, so the dishes for the most part sounded great with the exception of the crab/old bay sorbet.
when and where is it on? Food channel?
It’s on UPN. I think last night’s was a repeat of the one they showed last fall (I tuned in long enough to see Sling Blade offering the commentators caviar). I’m not sure if it’s on the regular schedule, but that’s what I love about the weeks following the May sweeps, you never know what’s gonna be on. Hell, even “Wednesday 9:30 Eastern, 8:30 Central” was on again.
Here is the official IC USA site.
the commentators even talked and laughed like the translators for the japanese version. other than the caucasian chefs, and william shatner, it was hard to tell that it was the american version.
and shatner IS the perfect choice for the role.
I feel the commentators on ICA don’t know as much about cooking as the original. Plus I think the original Iron Chefs could kick the new butts any day of the week.
I liked it, but one of the commentators was there only to be incredibly stupid and ask “What’s that?” “how do you make that?” so the intelligent guy could explain it for the folks at home who can’t see all the action. Shatner rules, but any Japanese Iron Chef would clean the floor with that Iron Chef American, without all the showboating.
I definitely agree that the original Iron Chefs would waste out the new ones, but I like the new show. I think the only thing that really grossed me out was the fact that neither chefs wore hats. Ewww.
