Iron Chef

This isn’t about one particular episode, but more about what gets said in EVERY episode.

They have the announcers that sit up high at the tables, and they are constantly trying to guess what is being made. Then there is another announcer type - who seems to be on the floor with the chefs - that cuts in and either corrects/or confirms their guesses. This person ALWAYS starts talking by saying (what I believe to be) one word - or a phrase.

Does anyone know what he actually says?

(It roughly sounds like squeeze-on. Though I am sure I just murdered it.)

The floor reporter is addressing one of the announcers in the box, Kenji Fukui. He is saying “Fukui-san”.

Arrez Cuisiiiiine!

Go big man!

Anonymous **** Coward - slight nitpicking here…

It’s “Allez Cuisine”…which translates as “Let’s Cook”

Thanks so much!

I hear the ‘san’ part, but definitely NOT the first part. He really makes an ‘f’ sounds?

I’ll have to try to remember to watch tonight to see.

Sometimes in Japanese, you can leave out vowel sounds if you’re in a hurry. Thus “Fukui-san” becomes “Fkui-san”. Which an American could hear as “Squeeze-on”, as you did.

Thanks Jpeg Jones! At least I know I’m not going crazy!

In some early episodes, it sounded like he was saying “Kwy-zan”. Mind you, we aren’t hearing the guy himself - it’s actually a dubbed translation, so who knows what it sounds like in the original.

Haha, whenever I hear that I always hear it as “squeeze-on”.

Awesp,e!

True, but it’s probably a safe bet that at least this part sounds the same. If they translated it, we’d hear Ohta saying “Mr. Fooky!”
