I am rediscovering some bands tonight that I have not listened to for years.
My God, the transition from Old Man Bar to Junior’s Bar.
And the other songs on the album - Pumping Iron, Angela, Price of Love, every damn one of them. Springsteen, who I love, never wrote better songs than these in this genre.
I remember seeing them in Rolling Stone’s top 100 album chart for months on end ca. 1980, and when I finally got a chance to hear them, they were one of those bands that had great songs and musicianship but just didn’t do anything for me, KWIM?
Around the same time, there was an Iowa-based band called The Hawks that everyone expected to hit the big time (it didn’t) and of course The Blue Band was an event fixture for decades.
