Some of Mrs. Piper’s stuff that needs ironing is wool or wool mixes.
Now I, as a dutiful husband, do my share by doing the ironing.
As a dutiful, prudent husband, I also know that ruining the wife’s stuff by not following Proper Laundry Protocol™ is a Very Bad Thing.
So, when I’m ironing wool or wool blends - do I set the iron on steam or dry?
I was taught to never use steam with wool as it would cause it to shrink. I don’t know if this is correct or not. You can take it up with my mother. She’s been wrong once or twice before.
This site says use steam, and the wool setting. I’ve pressed wool and wool blends without a problem, as long as the iron wasn’t too hot.
And I’m revising my notion of who does laundry.
Always use steam; do not press wool to dryness. In fact, if possible, just steam it without touching it with the iron.
Whenever possible, iron the back side of wool fabric; when you must press the good side, use a pressing cloth.
Don’t iron until you have allowed wool garments to hang for 24 hours; pressing may be unnecessary if the wrinkles go away on their own.
Sure, do the laundry if you want. But don’t blame us when you find your brother-in-law’s diary in your wife’s underwear drawer…
I would hang the items in the bathroom when you shower first as all but the most stubborn creases will fall out.
Then use the ‘Wool’ setting on your iron with steam on the pesky ones.
