The French schools have begun enforcing their controversial ban on “overtly religious symbols,” like Muslim headscarves, Sikh turbans, Christian crosses, and the like.

This sort of thing, IMHO, is nuts and completely perverts the concept of freedom of religion. It would be a cool (and unlikely) thing if the Christian and non-believing students all made the wearing of a headscarf a fashion statement. What would the authorities do if suddenly ALL the young ladies began wearing them in a show of support for their Muslim sisters?
That certainly covers people like Saint Lao Tzu.
