Is All Blue Cross PPO Plans created equal?

Say I have a “Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Polywog” plan offered by my employer with HQ in the State of Polywog. But, I live elsewhere. So, how does this work? (It is a PPO plan) Should my employer have a list of PPO doctors in my area that accept this exact “Polywog” plan? Or, do I have to go and make my own inquiries, OR are all doctors who accept “Blue Cross” (used generically) created equal, i.e.: a Blue Cross PPO plan is a Blue Cross PPO plan is a Blue Cross PPO plan?

If you go to your plan’s website, you should be able to find a link showing their national network of providers. I think there is some attempt to make them equivalent, however. I’ve had three different BCBS PPOs based in three different states in the last two years and haven’t had to change doctors at all.
