Is an Englishmans home his castle?

I’m sure I read somewhere once of a surprisingly large number of officials who have automatic right of entry into UK homes.

If I remember correctly, the list included the police, customs and exise and even the gas board.

Can anyone provide a detailed list?

The police aspect of this is answered here

Other bodies would have to obtain a warrant in every case, I think.

Here is the law relating to entry by gas companies :-

By the way , there is no body now called “the gas board”. That disappeared over ten years ago. Now you have Transco , who own the gas pipes and meters, and the individual companies who you buy your gas off.

Customs and Excise have, for some historical reason, right of entry powers which exceed those of the police. I cannot provide a cite but got this from my dad, who was a senior C&E investigator.
