Is anybody familiar with HP Pavilion beep codes?

My stepdaughter’s computer (my former system) is an HP Pavilion 785 running WinME. Today she turned it on and nothing happened other than a series of beeps (1-3-3-1).

I tried to use the restore disc, but the same thing happened. I also tried a bootdisk from Bootdisk.com, but it would not boot from it.

The harddrive will spin up and stop, but nothing else.

I’ve emailed HP, but I don’t know if they’ll be able to help me because it’s been so long since I bought the computer (April 2001).

Some help?

Beep codes for common BIOS manufacturers

It says “28 Autosize DRAM”.

Huh?

You didn’t mention it was a C or A model Pavilion. This Link is for the C model. Or course maybe the A is the same?

Give it a try anyways
Good Luck
Jim

Pull and re-seat the memory. Pull and re-seat all the PCI cards. Unplug and replug the hard drives. See what happens.

JimMacMillan: There’s no letter after the number.

astro: I’ll open it up tomorrow and try all that stuff. I’ll post results afterward.

Thanks for all the help, everyone!

Finally got around to it and reseated the memory.

Voila!

Thanks, astro.
