Yes, I think wax-resist egg dying is a Slavic, not Ukrainian per se, traditional craft. Wikipedia says it is also practiced by non-Slavic central and eastern European countries, like Finland, and Romania.
I gave up Lent for Lent decades ago.
I remember the first time I noticed someone with ash on their forehead at work when I was in my 30s. I almost mentioned it to the person (a customer), like you would say something to someone if their zipper was down.
When I mentioned it to a coworker they laughed and told me what it was and why. It was a TIL moment.
I had that moment in kindergarten, when half the class showed up one morning with a smudge on their face.
Different neighborhoods. In kindergarten most of the boys in my class wore yarmulkes.
