It beats not-so-seriously voting for Dubya.
And yes, I happen to like what Kerry stands for.

This mirrors my sentiments exactly.
Registered Republican who will be voting for Kerry.
The Pennsylvania primary takes place this Tuesday. Sorry, I’m still thinking in future tense since we haven’t had the primaries yet.
I am. The more I hear about him, the more impressed I am. He’s a decorated combat vet (Purple Hearts, Bronze Star, Silver Star) that served in the Mekong Delta, which was no easy place to be, that became a peacenik. I’ve read some of his speeches and come away wowed. He hunts, or so says his website, which I respect. He wants to tax the rich (gasp of horror!). His site says things like, “We shouldn’t be opening firehouses in Baghdad and closing them in Brooklyn,” which I totally agree with. He’s talking about cracking down on companies that dodge taxes and such.
The only knock I see on him is that he’s changed his mind a few times. Well, he’s a politician, so I’ll make allowances for that, and I don’t believe one has to hold the same beliefs for 30 or 40 years, even though that doesn’t play well in the soundbites.
And overall I just like the guy. He just comes across as a good guy. He’s the kind of person I think we should aspire to place in high office.
I’d vote for just about ANYONE instead of Bush, but I’m glad that “anyone” in this instance is Kerry. Not that my vote will count, I live in Texas and I expect that Bush will prevail in this state again, being that he’s a native son, Republican, and making his religion part of his political base.
No, no, I’m not bitter at all.
I freely admit that I would vote for the leftovers in my fridge before I’d vote for Bush, but the fact that Kerry is actually a good and qualified candidate is just a bonus. I like that he’s a liberal Dem instead of just a Dem. I like what he did both during and after Vietnam. I like that he used to smoke dope. I like that he’s bagged a few celebrities.
It’s also extremely important to get someone in the WH who can appoint some more rational and moderate justices to the Supreme Court and prevent W from stacking it with even more right-wing, anti-choice, anti-gay, election-fixing frauds.
Kerry supports same-sex civil unions. Bush wants to deface the US Constitution with its first ever hate amendment.
Kerry has been in a war and been not only shot at but shot. Bush ran away when it was his turn but now has no compunction about sending other, less connected kids to die for his approval ratings.
Do I even have to mention the brainpower thing?
How is this even a choice?
I’m voting for him mainly because he’s not Bush. I suppose I could even support him if I knew anything about him. I know several people who seem to know tons about both candidates, but as soon as I ask them where they got their information so I can learn something before I vote as well, they claim they don’t know where to go to learn about said candidates. It’s driving me nuts. How can anyone know about something, and yet not be able to give any help to those asking for places to learn about the candidates platforms?
I’m sure there are.
But, I’ll admit to being one who will vote “against” Bush instead of voting FOR Kerry. Does it really matter?
But, to be fare, when I cast my vote for Bush 3 1/2 years ago, I really didn’t vote for him, I voted “against” Gore!
So, it all evens out really.
Sure there are … just like those who go see the Cubs play …
I will vote for Kerry because he is the far lesser of evils.
I support Kerry, but I would sure have loved to see Dean tear Bush a new asshole on the campaign trail. Anger is good; we have much to be angry about.
Yes.
Kerry would not be my ideal candidate, but then again nobody would ever be my ideal candidate (except myself). Kerry has several attributes that raise him above the common herd.
First on the finanical side, I don’t believe that he’ll balance the budget, but he will fight against the more outrageous tax cuts and spending increases that Congress will try to pass during the next four years. Kerry once floated a proposal to eliminate two federal departments, and he’s more aware of wasteful government spending than most of those other clowns.
Second, Kerry has actually been at war. Hence he knows what it’s like to be a soldier and know better than to start a war on false premises or to be dishonest with the troops about how long they will need to serve.
Lastly, while not being a great speaker on the order of Roosevelt or Kennedy, he is a competent one. He will speak powerfully and persuasively. And he will not embarrass our country by doing stupid things such as yelling “Bring 'em on” like a drunken frat boy after being asked about the prospect of thousands more people being killed in Iraq.
I am voting for Kerry.
I’m deeply angry about what G.W. Bush has done in his tenure, and would probably vote for almost anyone else. I’d vote for Al Sharpton if he were the Democratic candidate. I’d vote for a trained badger instead of Bush.
But I am happy to be able to vote for someone who agrees with me on many issues, as opposed to simply voting against someone I detest.
Me too. Bush seems to have done a spectacular job on most fronts of alienating me from him. I do not have confidence in the man, and that’s not a feeling I enjoy.
I’m not only voting FOR Kerry, I’m actively working for his campaign to help see that he is elected, and the illegal puppet in office is shown the way back to Texas.
Not that I needed to take that test to know where the candidates stood in relation to my beliefs, but Kerry is a match with 78% of my views and Bush is a whopping 14%. Even if I didn’t hate his guts for almost single-handedly destroying (or trying to destroy) our country and everything good about it (like the budget, the environment, the economy, the constitution, international relations and basic human rights), it would still be, in the words of George Tenet, “a slam dunk.”
You could start by visiting the “issues” sections of each candidate’s websites:
You can also take the quiz linked above, and when you’re finished, click on “compare to other candidates” next to any candidate’s name, choose both Kerry and Bush and see how they feel on every one of the issues on the quiz stacked side-by-side. Good luck!
Wow. On that president match site I came up with 76% for Kerry and exactly 1% for Bush. I wonder if a zero is possible.
I swear somebody either asks this question or makes this supposition (nobody actually wants Kerry) every week around here. So to make that post again, yes, I’m voting for him because I like him. I don’t like every single thing, but we’re in line on the major ones. I think he’d be a good President. While I would have voted for just about any Democratic candidate, I’m glad he’s the one.
As much as I dislike Bush, I would not vote for just anyone to replace him. I’m afraid if the choice came down to, say, Bush vs Nadir (and I misspelled that deliberately) I would have to withhold my vote entirely for the first time in my life. I couldn’t bear putting my X beside either choice. As it is, I can get behind Kerry. He will be getting my vote.
ditto and ditto.
I can remember thinking there could never be a worse President than Nixon.
Boy, was I wrong.
At least Nixon opened the door to China.
Bush has made sure that every door on earth is slammed in our face.
Seriously…I cannot think of a single good thing Dubya has done that I could say “well at least he did that…”
If I won lottery tomorrow, I swear I would give half of it to moveon.com.
By the way…I have this sneaking feeling November is going to be the meanest, most polarized USA in recent history.
But, but, but… George Bush is “a uniter, not a divider,” don’tcha know.
