All of next year (and the three years after it) will be a bad time to visit the USA if Trump wins the election.
I’m not sure how or why you thought this was an appropriate comment in this thread. Drop any political jabs like this. That goes for everyone.
The biggest difference weather wise is that August into September is storm season for LA,MS and TX. Precipitation prediction isn’t perfect and there’s typically just a day or two warning. Would you know how to follow directions to evacuate, on the very rare chance that it happens?
May I suggest renting a small RV for the part of your trip around the eclipse? Totality will be mid-day for half the country, late morning the other half which would be before you could check in to most hotels and after check out time as well. You could pull into a picnic or camping area after breakfast and relax as though you’re in an outdoor room watching the eclipse before getting on your way to the next stop. The area you’re talking about viewing it in the West has beautiful landscapes and many places to camp w/ a variety of amenities (even here in Utah there is a range of rustic to glamping for one to choose from).
Since you’ll be in the west I have to put a vote in for you to see any of our National Park gems.
