Is August a "down time" for message boards?

August is always the doldrums in the news business. People are on vacation and news agencies glom onto sensational stories to fill the void. This summer has been pretty good for the news people, they have been able to milk the debt ceiling crisis, the riots in the UK and few other sensational stories like the stock market, the carnage in Afghanistan and Casey Anthony.

This year we haven’t has a good OJ Simpson story, Michael Jackson story or Gary Condit story to fill columns but a lot of smaller stuff has taken that space.
What I’m getting at is that it seems that activity these days is down on the SDMB. Is that the case? Do hits fall off significantly in August? It seems like it but I’m just speculating and wondering.

Is a mod, authorized and/or willing to tell us something about activity on the boards in August compared to the rest of the year? Just asking.

Mods don’t really have access to breakdowns on board activity. We’d be just offering our personal experience, which any member can do.

Probably only Ed could give you a realistic answer.

Well, August is a popular month for vacations. Given the number of people who access the dope from work, it may play a part in the board activity.

You can find information on activity on the biggest boards on the net, including the Straight Dope, at Big Boards.

I see no evidence for any big drop in posting in August or any other month this past year. Posting rate is remarkably constant through the year.
