I agree. The term can be applied to anyone, depending on the circumstances. I’m regarded as a jerk by many at this site. And they’re all correct. But so, too, are my critics jerks. Oh, I’m talking about myself again. Such a jerk.
Bill Murray can play a jerk well, but he’s a great guy ! How do I know ? I don’t, but he comes across as a regular nice guy on Letterman. And I believe that Bill Murray to be whom he really is; a funny, nice, regular guy. Like me. O-oh, there I go again.
In summation, we (the human race) are pretty-much all jerks, in some way or another. A corollary is the idea that “everybody is crazy”, originated by my simple-minded brother about 15 years ago. I cannot find any fault in this idea. The only remaining questions are: 1) How crazy ? and 2) In what way ?
Bitches be crazy.
Indeed. He’s legend down here in Charleston, SC where he owns the Charleston River Dogs and does such things from time to time. I know people who don’t like baseball who go just on the off chance something will happen.
The stories I’ve read say that Murray simply gave up with the usual Hollywood nonsense. He no longer has an agent, a publicist, or a bodyguard. He travels by himself. He goes up behind people and puts his hands over their eyes and says, “Guess who?”. He shows up at random parties and afterwards helps clean up.
.
Pch?
The Pacific Coast Highway, presumably.
He did that to me once. I was then going to ask him to autograph a 1 dollar bill that I had in my wallet, but, my wallet seemed to be missing…
Apparently he has an old school answering machine. If someone has a project they want him for they leave a message. Maybe he’ll respond, maybe he won’t.
Bill Murray sounds more like the anti-jerk.
When he used to co-own the St. Paul Saints we had season tickets. He usually sat in the box with the announcer, so he could enjoy the game, but a few times he visited in the stands when the gates first opened. He was apparently a very good tipper at Gabes - the bar by the Saints stadium. When he put on his “public face” he was always gracious - he didn’t do it often (it was usually “oh, Bill Murray is in the box again” but he doesn’t exist simply for the pleasure of his fans.)
Bill Murray is my favorite actor and I had a crush on him when I was a little girl. The story I always hear is that he randomly stole some guy’s french fry at a restaurant and ate it, saying ‘‘No one will ever believe you.’’ That is the only variation of the story I’ve heard, and it sounds like Blll Murray to me. It sounds just like the kind of thing he would do.
I think one reason some people consider him a jerk is that he was considered the major obstacle to making Ghostbusters 3.
But you have to factor in: that it’s rumor, that given the quality of GB2, GB3 might not be a good idea, and that he has grown and moved on as an actor.
I think the stories/rumors have always been that the planned storyline(s) for GB3 have been complete CRAP and he didn’t want to do it.
I could be wrong.
