Sea urchins, or Tiny Tim clones?
Red-headed curly-haired guys playing the ukulele?
I hope that’s OK.
Well I already know one thing - I’ll be saving the Little Sisters. I don’t have a hard enough heart to kill them all.
Last night I made it almost all the way to Dr. Steinman. I believe I just have a couple of more areas to get to him. The part where
the lights all went out and six or so splicers attacked me
was scary, but I had just picked up the shotgun, which is perfect for that kind of work, and I showed 'em what for. BAM! BAM!
It was extremely horrific but very cool when I lit up the oil and watched them burn outside of the little room with the oil slick around it and listened to them scream.
It’s an unbelievably awesome game and so far everything i hoped for, though undeniably creepy. But since I restarted I’ve been much more careful with my ammo and I’m loving the shotgun.
And I just love Atlas’ voice. Though I do know the twist ending about him.
“Aphrodite is walking the halls - shimmering, like a scalpel…
‘Steinman,’ she calls, ‘Steinman! I have what you’re looking for! Just
open your eyes!’ And when I see her, she cuts into me a thousand
beautiful pieces.”
I need to re-install this, I guess…
See, I thought that one was the best scare, too, but most people who discuss the scariest moment cite this one (also on the Medical Pavillion level):
when you’re in the Dental area. First, you walk into an exam room, the room fills with steam, and when it clears suddenly there’s a dead body in the dentist’s chair. Okay, freaky enough.
Then you walk over to that desk that has some goodies and a teddy bear on it. Once again, the room fills with steam, and when it clears…nothing. Nothing’s changed. Whew. And then you turn around to leave and HOLY CRAP SPOOKY DENTIST IS RIGHT BEHIND YOU STARING AT YOU!
I guess I was so “on guard” for people popping out of nowhere, that it didn’t faze me as much as most folks.
I shrieked like a little girl during this scene.
I put the controller on the ground and walked away. Nobody else picked it up.
That’s a damn shame. Fatal Frame 1,2, and 3 are some of the best games my wife and I have ever played. We didn’t mind the controls, but then we’d also logged more than a healthy amount of time on Pokemon Snap. The ghosts were no match for Professor Oak’s training.
I love the story and the atmosphere of the games. The endings? I’d say they’re pretty bleak in the line of The Twillight Zone. If you get the chance to pick the controller back up, I’d do so. The games are well worth the sleepless nights.

Nope. 1) It’s on PlayStation, which I don’t have, 2) I’ve got better games to play these days, and 3) I’m a little girl.

The first two are available for XBox as well. And you can get them much more cheaply for XBox. (I haven’t tried backward compatibility but I suppose I could pop it in to check…)
-
Feh. There is no better game to play these days.

-
Yes, well the little girl thing is a problem but you will be able to identify with the protagonists.
ETA: Yes, it looks like the 360 can play my copy of Fatal Frame II. Now to resist playing it again…

I’m out.
So…I’ve been playing this all weekend and last week. I still can’t put in too long at a time, but I admit, it got a lot better once I left the Medical Area. I am all the way up to the spot where the submarine gets blown up.
I only have genuinely screamed twice:
Once, when I was picking through some stuff on a table in the medical ward. I turned around and there was a splicer standing right behind me, staring at me. But that’s what the shotgun is for, and since I had it in my hands…
Another was when one of those stupid spider splicers attacked me from behind.
I had a good one where a spider slicer came to attack me, leaping over a pair of helium tanks as she did so. I had been examining the wall behind the helium tanks at that moment, so when she leapt, I fired the shotgun - blowing the tanks sky high. There wasn’t even bits left of her!
I am playing it on Easy. I rarely see a point to playing games on “hard”, really - I am way more interested in the story and in the plot and the gameplay than making it exceptionally hard for myself.
I love the game. I just love it. The voice acting is very good and the mood is amazing. Thank you all.
Oh, and of course I am saving the Little Sisters. No way would I do anything else.
I have a hard time being evil in video games - I don’t even like to do it in games like Fable II or Oblivion.
I just picked up ‘incinerate’, and am playing through again, I started out on Hard then went back to an older savegame as I got tired of:
Jump out of vitachamber, shoot person once, die, jump out of vitachamber, shoot person again, die, etc.
I love the ‘incidental’ stuff. I’ll be walking down a hallway and there’s a window, with 12 fish swimming in a current. The amount of time spent on making the water, sea weed, fish, and background buildings look good…boggles. And I hear it gets better with the sequel
You play as the first Big Daddy and part of the gameplay includes leaving the buildings and walking around outside.
Just hearing the surgeon saying:
This one’s too tall! This one’s too symmetrical!
All while hacking up his latest project on the table
Just gives me the heebie jeebies. In a good way.
Yes, the fish are something else. In Fontaine’s Fisheries, there’s live fish flopping around on the floor. I tried beating them with my crowbar but it didn’t seem to do anything. There’s also a whole tankful of fish.
So…I have almost finished the game. On easy, still. I have
become a Big Daddy
and am literally standing outside the last door, about to start
tapping on the wall to get a Little Sister.
No doubt I will beat it tonight.
It was a great game, and I may even replay it (I replay as many of my games as possible) so thank you all for your help!
