Is Bread not considered Vegan?

Of course it is. And the point that started this conversation is that PETA apparently do not. In accord with their usual schtick, they present their absolutist moral stance as the only correct one, and condemn any dissenting view.

I’m not sure what insight you think comes from this “analogy”. Why is it surprising that completely different moral issues merit different attitudes? Would your tolerance of dissenting views on slavery be similar to your tolerance of dissenting views on minimum wage policy?

And of course the specifics of the moral issue relate to whether a criticism of sanctimoniousness is warranted. If you loudly and insistently condemn the moral failings of someone who thinks beating their wife is okay, nobody is going to criticize you for being sanctimonious. The nuanced moral issues surrounding pet ownership are not so black-and-white.

I’ve tried three times to explain it. If you’re still not sure, I have no further ways to explain it, so I think we’re done.

[Moderating]
I think this has run its factual course. Since the current discussion is both non-factual and tangential to the OP, I’m going to close this thread now. If you wish to continue to debate PETA or pet breeding, open a new thread in GD. If anyone actually has anything to add on the topic of bread being vegan, PM me or another FQ moderator.
