I’ve gotten conflicting reports about this beverage. Is Champale still on the market? If so, who brews it, and where is it sold?
According to wiki, still produced, by Pabst, in limited release.
I’d totally forgotten it existed.
i saw that on wikipedia, but i can’t find a website for it.
It was a few years ago. We were staying in Richmond VA, and Dad (somewhat of a Frasier Crane type character in some ways) wanted to buy some Champagne to celebrate my step mother’s birthday before we went out to dinner. He turned the wrong way out of the hotel, and ended up in a run down liquor store.
He returned, saying he could only get mini bottles of champagne. Seeing the label, I decided not to warn him, just said I had a headache and didn’t want a drink. How we laughed at him when he tried the beverage he purchased.
Not having much luck, but it appears that as of 2007, it was available in Cleveland, and was horrible:
Back in the old days in East Berlin, when the Wall was still up, a common drink in the bars was Herren Gedeck…a combination of local champagne (known as Sekt) mixed 50/50 with beer.
Made the Sekt taste better and the beer taste worse.
People, we have confirmation. I saw all 4 flavors in a beverage warehouse in nothern Manhattan (9th Ave and 207th St).
it really is the greatest city in the world…
AAAH!! I want some of that! Did you happen to catch the name of the manufacturer?
Sorry, no, just saw the cases on the pallets…
So, it appears that it’s appeal has become more selective.
