Is Courthouse News Service a legitimate news source?

There’s a story on Yahoo at the moment from “The Yahoo! Contributor Network”, which seems to be Yahoo!'s way of carefully distancing themselves from the story.

Googling some key names reveals the story on sites like bossip.com, theoriginalgreenwichdiva.com, newsone.com and other places I’ve never heard of, dailymail.co.uk, which IIRC is a tabloid of dubious veracity, and courthousenews.com - which I thought was legit, but I’m not sure.

The story is really f-ing gruesome, and makes very little sense to me from a medical perspective; I’m wondering if I should just mentally file it away with Bat Boy and the like, or if it’s worth discussing to fight my own ignorance.

I know about Yahoo!, of course, but I’d never heard of a Yahoo Contributor Network. The page I found for Courthouse News Service looks … err … sensational. So I suppose I don’t really have an answer to your question. But what news story was it?

Huge “trigger”, gory details about the death of a newborn warning here. Breaking the links to prevent accidental clickage:

Thank you, I appreciate your being careful. Sounds horrifying.
