Oh HELL no!
That’s a good point, and I agree with it. It usually involves a substantial bit of information. The one with the Israeli airport worker was indeed good. There was another good one with a TSA worker recently.
That’s largely the reason I don’t read Cracked much anymore, I can’t stand the articles endlessly telling me the “7 reasons science says you suck and are standing in the way of your own success.” I already have an education, a job, a life, and personal ambition, Cracked writer. Tell a joke or get off the stage.
ETA: Seanbaby has made me laugh louder, harder, and given me as much joy as anything on the internet.
I find the site to be hit or miss (although the After Hours segments are usually consistently funny), with two exceptions. Seanbaby is (in my opinion) consistently hilarious, particularly in his review of Godek’s books. John Cleese is (also in my opinion) a comedy black hole. His columns are long-winded rants about he triumphed over a troubled past and will thus lecture the young whippersnappers reading about how to be as awesome as him. There aren’t even any jokes; it’s like being yelled at by Wilford Brimley in print form.
Exactly. If I were a twenty-something hipster instead of a reasonably accomplished person with a life and job and ambition, maybe I’d find the site more appealing.
I like the photoplasty contests.
You take that back RIGHT…NOW.
unless it’s a typo.
Oh, come now. The “F#CK BATMAN” rap he did was hilarious.
Seanbabys articles on the super-friends area must read.
There have been moments for me where, after watching an After Hours clip, I have sat in the dark and re-contemplated the lens through which I view the social world. There are seconds of genius in those clips. Really - I like it when they give up trying to be funny and just focus on being insightful; so do they, I suspect.
But a lot of cracked is nothing more than boring bullshit with meta-dick jokes. John Cheese’s never-ending litany of “what it’s like to be a poor [ex-]alcoholic” was brave and original a few years ago, but now it’s lazy.
Arguably, for me at least, the funniest series of articles was Seanbaby’s critique of various romance and self-defense books. There is something about the intensity of his vitriol which keeps you coming back for more:
“Yeah, I remember this hot tip from earlier in this same book, you useless hack. I know when you sat down to type every little goddamn thing that popped into your subnormal brain you figured no one would ever hold it up to any scrutiny. These are just books for bored old people to pass around when they’ve run out of gift ideas. Well fuck you, Godek. I read them. And you’re worse at your job than the doctor who accidentally punched you for thirty minutes instead of giving you a circumcision. You write the same way you pee: out of a stupid vagina. These garbage books you make are inhumane attempts at population control.”
OK, these two articles are the best I’ve read in a long time on Cracked- One because it’s funny & the other because it’s emotionally insightful.
First, on Old Terrifying Toys had me howling with laughter…
Next, on Heartrending Movie Scenes…
