Is "Die Hard" a Christmas Movie?

And he was wrong too.

I agree with you about Die Hard.

But sir, you are DEAD wrong about Home Alone. The whole Wet Bandits burglary scheme is entirely dependent on multiple families in the neighborhood going out of town for Christmas. Couldn’t have happened at any other time. Then you have all the stuff with Kevin making Christmas wishes, first for his family to disappear, later to bring them back. It’s a very “Christmas miracle” type of movie at heart.

Home Alone 2, that could have been whenever, as running into the WB again was just a huge coincidence, I’ll grant you that, and very little that couldn’t have been changed into a non-Christmas time and still work, but the original, take Christmas out and you just don’t have a movie anymore.

It’s that time of year…I thought I would revive this one more time for further discussion.

Of course it’s a Christmas movie. It’s become an annual tradition in the Siam Sam household. Along with It’s a Wonderful Life and Lethal Weapon.

It’s STILL a Christmas movie, and anyone wishing to join me can come to the AFI theater in Silver Spring, MD on Christmas Eve to watch it with me.

Well, one out of three ain’t bad.

So, is Iron Man 3 a Christmas movie?

Set at Christmastime (even though the movie was released in May)
Features “Christmas” fireworks
Has a “Christmas tree” featuring the President (strung up in the Iron Patriot suit)
The little kid from Jurassic World ends up with lots of gifts

Probably not, mainly Die Hard is a Christmas movie as so many fans consider it a Christmas movie, not for any check list of reasons.

When I saw Die Harder in theater, it was a very hot summer day. The theater cranked the A/C to freezing. That, and all the winter/Xmas imagery in the film, caused quite a disconnect when we went back out into the sweltering heat.

Well, it does take place in L.A…

No. Die Harder.

A very late reply, but you make a very compelling argument. I concede Home Alone might be considered a Christmas movie for those reasons. I still wouldn’t say so, but I will allow it scrapes into my definition.

Perhaps we can find some common ground with Bad Santa.

I’m an exceptional thief.

This is my favourite thread.

Is it too early to wish everyone a Merry Christmas?

Yes, it have become a Christmas-film for me, but only in the last few years. Not in the 80’s or 1990’s.

Ha! Always loved that line. He’s taken over a skyscraper with 15 hardened soldiers attempting to steal $60 million dollars - there’s nothing common about that, lady.

The bare boobs on the chick who’s getting laid when The Grubers et al. show up! Yeahhhhhh! :o

That’s $640 million. (And 12 soldiers.)

We just did our annual viewing tonight. Warmed the cockles of our hearts it did.

More exceptional than I remembered!

That’s how good this movie is, I had forgotten all about that! :smack:
