is "Environmental Action" a scam?

A guy just came around door-to-door trying to collect money for “Environmental Action.” I thought it seemed normal until he started in on the “if you don’t donate money through me, I don’t get credit for it…I’m a broke college student…” schpiel.

Their website is www.environmental-action.com, but that doesn’t really tell me anything. I noticed in the fine print that contributions to them are NOT tax deductible.

Anyone heard anything about them?

Our rule of thumb around the naugahyde ranch:

If you’re not selling Girl Scout cookies or wearing a USPS uniform, you will not get anything but a ration of shit for ringing my doorbell. We had a deranged guy 2 weeks ago that knocked because the lights were still on (at midnight on a Saturday).

Needed twenty dolla to fix his car and he lived up the street and…

Insert the rest of this (very common in Atlanta) sob-story here.

We don’t DO business with people that knock on our door. We try to discourage it. Absolutely no money or signatures will come from our door, except for the 2 previously mentioned privileged classes. Oh, if we’ve already bought GS cookies, we’ll answer the door and explain the situation to the next GS vendor.

I guess the bottom line is: If you want to donate or support a cause, look it up and help out online or via the mail. Unsolicited doorbell ringing is spam. Stay off my porch.
