I had a question and have been to this forum before. So many well educated people here I figured it would be a good place to ask this question.
I live in a basement next to a garage with exposed fiberglass. The basement itself is normal and looks finished. However, in the next room is the garage which has pink insulation all over the ceiling.
There is a door between my room and this garage. However, I am still concerned I could be breathing in fiberglass particles in the basement since I am so close to the garage. Plus, the people use the garage and open the door from time to time.
Am I at danger spending a large amount of time in this basement? I do not want to do any lung damage or anything like that. The door that seperates the basement from the garage is a legit door and seems to be effectively close off the garage. Am I worried about nothing or should I be concerned? Thanks
It’s fine if it is not being disturbed, the thing is a door slamming might be enough to disturb it. Little particles of glass come off the stuff pretty easily and it tends to collect and redistribute other dust very effectively. Best practice is to have it behind a due proof barrier. Pretty easy to staple up some poly to cover it.
You probably are not getting exposed to much, but why risk it if it can easily be covered. It’s horrible crap and I suspect at some point in the future it will be considered an unacceptable health hazard.
Not really. a poke like that doesn’t even draw blood…
But, a single strand in your skin, should it remain there, could trigger a scar the size of a mole, eg half inch even an inch in diameter…
