Yup. Looks like my browser is just spinning. Weird. I was there earlier today with no problem (reading about the 18 yr-old harlequin baby - absolutely amazing!)

Yeah, it was earlier this morning. If you do not know what a harlequin baby (or “harlequin fetus”) is, DO NOT do a search unless you are prepared for Very Disturbing Images (I am not kidding – in the past people have said it gave them nightmares). People often link to the images for the purpose of shocking others, so it ranks up there with “goatse” and the (fake) “seeded breast” when it comes to “ditrubing”.
In any case, the genetic mutation results in a defect so severe that it is extremely rare for a harlequin baby to survive infancy, though some manage to get up to toddlerhood. But Fark had a story about an 18 year-old who has survived! :eek: Not only is he alive and well, but he competes in triathlons!
I was totally blown away! I certainly never thought that was possible.
Really humbling to read the story actually.
And Fark is still down.

When I saw the Fark headline I thought “Hm. I wonder if a harlequin baby has survived.” But then I thought “Impossible.” (The risk of infection makes it seem so implausible). I kinda wanted to applaud or salute the guy or something.
It started quite a debate about letting nature take its course vs. spending all resources required to beat what is practically insurmountable odds.
Quite interesting really. I almost started a Dope thread about it.
