Simple -but crucial - question: if you could give up eating, would you?
Or:
Do you eat to live, or live to eat?

I eat to live. It is a crucial aspect of survival. Occasionally I will enjoy a meal (like last night on the cruise ship my man took me on), but generally I just eat so that my stomach doesn’t scream at me. I hate overeating though. You know the feeling when it would be better to vomit than sit there. ugh. I am going to ruin my lunch.
Definitely an eat to live sort here. I have to remember to eat, and sometimes I fail to work it into the schedule. I can rarely finish an entree at a restaurant.
Hmm… for the most part I would give it up… sometimes I just love to eat though… stuff like ice cream or chips I wouldn’t want to give up grins
That’s the thing - I don’t get you guys. How can you not enjoy eating? Granted, I’m biased. My wife is a cook, a truly talented individual who sees cooking as a pleasure, not a chore. Bur even before her, I’d enjoy eating out in expensive restaurants and cheap ones; I’d find joy in a fresh apple or a peanut-butter sandwich. Nowadays of course, I eat very well (perhaps a bit TOO well, considering my waistline), and wouldn’t give it up for the world. Let’s put it this way: I like sex. I also like food. I don’t know what I like more.
People - you don’t have to be married to a professional to enjoy good food. Buy fresh bread, fresh fruit and vegetables. Get a restaurant guide (I recommend the Gaut-Milleu, but Zagat’s good too) and go to the highly-rated ones; you’ll find one in your price range. Don’t eat on the run; let youself enjoy at least one meal a day.
Remember - God gave you taste buds. Wield them with pride.
i would rather be 800lbs than give up eating.
i would give up anything else before food.
well, except for taste.
I do eat very well. I always have fresh stuff and I cook for my sweetie a lot. I just don’t love it. I have to eat to live, that is all it is. I don’t feel that I am missing anything, because I do eat and well.
Alessan I do enjoy good food… I love good food actually its just for the most part I’d rather be doing other stuff. But I take pleasure in the tastes and textures etc… thats one thing I’d like to look into… taking a cooking course somehwre…
Being a culinary school student, food is basically my life. I love to eat (and it’s started to show), and enjoy all kinds of food.
But, with school, I’m in baking right now, and am totally burned out on sweets (and I have a massive sweet-tooth). With that in mind, there are times when foods can be a burden.
I just believe that too many Americans look at food as fuel for the body, not also for the soul. Too many of us grew up in the generation of TV dinners and Kraft Mac & Cheese–not much thought into food and sitting down for a real meal. Not enough people have had the honest pleasure of sitting down to a dinner party with good friends, good food, good wine–and being able to appreciate all of it.
Eating in the right occasions can be a joy for the soul, but I think I’d like to give up eating if I could with the exceptions of those times when it is a feast for things other than the digestive track.
Definitely eat to live. I refuse to make a big deal about getting a meal, or pay more than I really should for a “fancy” dinner.
I live to eat. I have a relatively fast metabolism (and spend a lot of time chasing the kids around) so I don’t really have to watch what I eat for the most part.
Cooking is probably my favorite hobby. I go through stages - I’ll bake a lot or make a lot of Chinese or Japanese food. In the summer, though, with no a/c, it’s mostly salads

This question goes into a major part of my
life. For years, I didn’t know how to eat.
I dieted or binged, and hated the whole
issue of food. Finally, after some major
stomach problems, I learned how to eat
when I wanted and only when I was hungry.
It took over a year, but I really enjoy
eating now.
Also had a major problem with wine, which
really killed my stomach. When I gave it
up, I realized I just liked drinking stuff.
Walking on a rainy day and getting coffee,
on a sunny day and stopping for a vanilla
milkshake, the first and last cup of tea
of the day. I love it!
I love preparing food, cooking food, eating food.
Fresh vegetables, olive oil, fresh bread, pure tastes.
Good food is so good.
I don’t over eat, I take care in what and how I eat because it can be a great experience. Food reminds me of places,
of friends, of feelings. eg.Fresh salmon pasta and a glass of wine in Stockholm after just coming in from the cold, Goats cheese salad at a small restaurant in London
berries pancakes and orange juice on the seashore on a warm sydney morning…Food completes experiences.
I need food to survive, so I may as well enjoy it.
I do enjoy eating, and perhaps I attach too much to it emotionally. I can really relate to Annie-Xmas.
I have a lot of allergies, and some affect me in such a way that they could almost be called addictions. I have struggled with eating because of this for a large percentage of my life, and if I could just be free of it, I would. It would make everything so much simpler. Sure, I would miss it as a social and emotional event, but overall, I think I would like life much better without the obligation to eat at regular intervals.
One of the best experiences of my life was once when I fasted for three days. At the end, my mentality had changed so much, I saw eating as a choice and not a necessity. I wish it were really the case.
