The formula used here is more disturbing to me: mine social media for 4 or 5 mean posts, then use that as the basis of implying “Look how evil Democrats are!”
I mean, even legit news channels sometimes resort to just reeling off a bunch of random people’s tweets or whatever, but they usually say “Some people thought X, but others disagreed and thought Y”, giving examples of both.
Once again, there is no pretense of FOX doing journalism here.
Social media chatter that supports Fox objectives is frequently used to generate “news” stories, as in “Dem Official In Left-Leaning State Blasted On Twitter For Insensitive Remarks”.
The tactic of painting fringe yahoos as typical of one’s political enemies is commonplace; Fox has learned how to generate ratings by turning it up to 11.
Is Fox News bad? Only if you think taking a list of the ten healthiest cities in the US, according to source, and presenting it as the ten unhealthiest, with the same source attribution. Easy mistake to make, right? And also the graphics department mixed up Irvine, CA with Irving, TX …
Fox News is so fucking hard-up for anything bad about Biden, this is the current leading headline on their website. Fox News is not only “really all that bad”, they are also “pathetic as fucking shit”. I’m “captivated” by how fucking moronic that “news” site really is. Up next for them: Bat Boy!
Fox News has a story today on its main website about fare-dodging on Seattle’s light rail system. It includes the following eyebrow-raising claim:
“…the lone Republican on the Sound Transit Board says taxpayers who have forked over $168 billion for the system are getting ripped off.”
As far as I can ascertain, $5.2 billion has been spent on Seattle’s light rail so far. Much higher than forecast, sure, and arguably a bad use of money that could go for less sexy but effective mass transit.
OK, but other than getting it wrong by a factor of ten, and getting confused about the past and the future, their reputation remains intact…as an arm of the Russian propaganda machine.
