Is "Hotel California" about Roach Motels?

Consider:

The Roach Motel slogan: “Roaches check in – but they don’t check out!”

Famous line from Hotel California: “You can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave!”

Roach Motel was trademarked in 1977.

The song is from 1975.

“Hotel California” is about Limbo. Accept no other drug-fueled explanation.

Well, no. Although you can never leave either, you can check out of the Hotel California anytime you like, as the song says. You’re not allowed to check out from the Roach Motel.

Then where’s the part about how-low-can-you-go?

I thought the “check out” part means you die. Which the roaches do as soon as they enter.

For what it’s worth

For what it’s worth
(I hope this time it works.)

There’s something happening here, what it is ain’t exactly clear.

Um, whoosh?

No, I wasn’t seriously asking if Hotel California had to do with pest control.

Since you started this thread, seemingly in seriousness, no it’s not a whoosh.

Oh, ok.

Disclamer: This thread is tongue-in-cheek. The comparison between roach killers and rock songs was supposed to be funny. I thought the OP was silly enough that no one would take it seriously. I was wrong. -Thank you, the management.

Does anyone know if Max Roach liked The Eagles?

Judging by the warm smell of colitas, I’d say a roach clip was involved…

Unca Cece’s take on the song “Hotel California.”

Then the Roach Motel slogan makes no sense if you use that meaning of “check out.” Even though they die, the slogan clearly says they “don’t check out.”

Either that or… GASP

it’s Schroedinger’s Roach Motel!

That’s like the creepiest thing ever!
