A good answer!
I voted “who?” Not because I haven’t heard of them, but because I dont know that I’d recognize a song of theirs unless it was pointed out.
Maybe not ‘youthful’ per se, but have you have of Kendrick Lamar? He’s as rebellious and dangerous as anything rock has ever offered.
And yes, the kids have chosen their own music (in reference to a post above). It’s generally hip-hop with electronic influence. Trap music as well (the dreaded triplicate beat). Rock is… Well secondary at best.

Imagine Dragons sounds like a group that is desperately trying to get picked up for a beer commercial or a movie trailer soundtrack. The trailer, not the movie. It sounds like they’ve sold out even before the get-go.
It sounds like they’re trying really hard to say something deep, but when you listen to it, there’s nothing but these vapid tryhard cliches.
I find 90% of bands/lyrics are like that. Even bands I love. Very rarely will the lyrics make a song better. To me, the singer is just another instrument.
Is “Dubstep” still cool?
So IOW…“rock”.
I’m not sure how Imagine Dragons could be considered anything BUT rock. I mean insomuch that pop music today can be characterized by specific genres. A lot of modern music sounds like a corporate homogenized mishmash of rock, hip hop and dance beats. But Imagine Dragons are certainly more on the “rock” side of that, sandwiched somewhere between Coldplay and Kings of Leon.
