Everyone is against military action against Iran. It’ll be mismanaged, expensive, pre-emptive war, cost American (etc.) lives, be drawn out, for the wrong reasons, etc.
So we don’t attack Iran. Are they going to attack us?

They’ll fly airplanes into our buildings just like the Iraqi’s did. We need to kill them first.
No, they’ll disguise themselves as Mexicans, and sneak across the border.
Bottom line: no.
Funnelling supplies to Shi’ite insurgents in Iraq is one thing, but why would the Iranians be insanely stupid enough to attack U.S. forces directly?
Any day now, they will saddle up their seahorses, cross the ocean blue, and roll their magical jellyfish cannons up onto our shores.
Gotta be vigilant.
Depends. First off, what do you mean by attack us exactly? Directly attack the US using conventional forces? Not a chance in hell. Iran doesn’t have that kind of capability. Attack us indirectly using unconventional forces or tactics? This begs the question…where? Here in the US? Doubtful but possible. In Iraq? I think they are already doing this…so I’d say the answer is yes.
Iran is not going to openly challenge the US head on in a military confrontation. Even if we do some surgical strikes on Iranian infrastructure and their nuclear program they aren’t going to do that. What they probably WILL resort too are indirect attack on the US in Iraq using unconventional means. In addition I don’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibility that they will use their contacts with such lovely groups as Hezbollah to perhaps attack US interests abroad…or even do a 9/11 style raid on the US directly (if they can do so without having their own fingerprints seen).

No. They certainly aren’t stupid enough to attack the targets in the States either. If they did Bush would have no choice but to respond. While an invasion would be difficult to pull off we could still devestate Iran and if they attacked us first we’d have an easier time getting allies and the UN on board than with Iraq.
Three cheers for honest debate! :smack:
How is that not attacking us?
Did I say it wasn’t an attack? Since you didn’t define what ‘attack us’ meant in the OP I gave a spectrum of possible ways Iran COULD plausibly attack us. They won’t attack us conventionally, so if that’s what you meant the answer is no. If you meant unconventionally then the answer is either ‘they could’ or ‘they already are’ depending on where and how you mean that.
If you want specific answers then you need to sharpen up your OP and your definitions.

Why would they do this? The only bi-product would be giving the US an excuse for a war against them. And it’s not like it would help the Ayatollah any to blow up a few more US buildings.
They are going to have weapons of mass destruction, or at least a program that might eventually give them weapons of mass destruction.
That was enough last time, why wouldn’t it be enough this time? Besides, this war was not cool enough to make the party in power look strong and manly. Obviously we need another war. We will find something, or someone will do something that can be, by concatenation of idiocy considered an attack on either us, or something we hold dear.

No, it won’t happen. But if you happen to believe the massive fear mongering campaign that your MSM has been spoon-feeding you for the past seven years, methinks Haiti and Curacao might be getting their nukes ready as well.
Meanwhile, your ever-increasing Police-state (nothing more annoying than going through US airport customs) just keeps getting the upper hand on what used to be your “unique Constitution provided freedoms.”
Ain’t that a (bitter) laugh…
Because, “Fool me once, shame on you, but . . . can’t get fooled again!”
We may hope.
Crawl out from under your bed. Iran is not going to attack us.
You misunderstand me. This may be one of their options in the event of, say, a US surgical stike on Iran’s nuclear program. I’m merely speculating that its a possibility. Also, they may try it if they think they can get away with it. We can’t strike out at Iran unless we know it was Iran who was behind the attack…well, in theory anyway. Of course, after Iraq they couldn’t be sure of that…so my guess is that such an attack would be a pretty low probability. Unless the US forced them too it.
One of the many reasons I think attacking Iran’s nuclear program, even in a surgical way, is a Bad Idea™.

Surgery is not performed with a bomb. War is performed with bombs.

Or in the twenty first century, by fomenting terrorism.
If and when Iran gets nukes, I suspect they will use them for leverage, or to threaten US allies like Israel or Saudi Arabia (or on behalf of one of the insurgent groups in Iraq). Or maybe to hasten the return of the twelvth Imam or the Ma’ahdi or what ever it is - I sometimes wonder why the Left is so eager to believe that Americans might use nukes to hasten Armageddon, and to deny that a fundamentalist nutcase like Amenidinijad might.

Oh…very profound. Bravo!

They are a sovereign nation not under the dictates of a treaty, and are thus entitled to non-nuclear weapons of mass destruction, at least.
If anyone considers arming the insurgents an attack on us, btw, then you’d have to also admit that we attacked the Soviet Union when we supported the insurgents in Afghanistan. And we weren’t even neighbors. That stuff happens, people, deal with it.
