Is it illegal to ask the dosage for suicide?

Napier- There are many, many ways to perform euthanasia. I infrequently do house call euthanasias, but I charge appropriately (hence-infrequently). Sedation can be given orally before the event to make things smoother.

Discussion with your veterinarian (similar to pre-need planning with a funeral home) is the way to go.

Thanks for your posts vetbridge. I have actually discussed things with my vet, and I have a three-part plan “just in case.” Best case scenario- if it comes down to it, either my vet or one of the techs comes to the house and puts him down. Second best- we have to take him to the office, yuck. His last day won’t be as nice because the animal hospital makes him nervous. Third (actually tied with second)- I don’t have time (urgent need to end his pain) and have to call the animal ambulance and they will do it and then take him.

I would love to be able to do it myself. I will ask my vet about this option, and I may email you at some point, vetbridge. Thanks again.

How do you get 100ml injected into a dog? Is that realistic? The thought of 100ml being forced into my blood system makes me wince, and I’m bigger.

huh? Do it everyday!?! Ever had an IV drip; that is typically a liter bag. Sure, it is usually going in slow, but speeding things up a bit doesn’t really change much. I know I got around 60 ml as a bolus for a contrast enhanced CT scan and it was no big deal.

being a medical person for 37 years, in school we took many classes, in one of those classes, one of our textbooks was Robert H. Dreisbach’s “Handbook of poisoning”, still sold at barnes and noble, it will give you all the answers you need about LD50 (50% of lethal dose) of some drugs and fatal does of other medications, with all the bad side effects that go on when you overdose, acute or chronically, and how to hopefully bring a person back, i do not recommend this as a book for suicide or any other thing, the book just states facts one needs to know when a person comes into the emergency room having done something stupid, all human life is precious and it is not you that suffers in death, it is the people left behind, my wife commited suicide when our daughter was 13 months old and her brothers were 12 and 14, it really hurts as a child to grow up with only one parent and only know your mother through photos and video, not pretty at all for those left living, if you need help get help, you will find their is tons of help out there with people who really care, no issue or incident is worth taking any life, 14 years later now i think of all the things my wife has missed in our children growing up, one son is working on his Ph.D. in texas at TTU, another son programs for Mcdonalds, and my 15 year old carries a 3.82GPA as a sophomore and wants to be a chemical engineer, and their mom has missed all of this, along with two granchildren who she will never hold in her arms, as for animals i recommend the merck veterinary manual for your answers, this is the real straight dope, not hear say

Please consider whether or not the academic/practical information you shared lines up with your implicit goal of helping families remain whole.

I know this is a zombie, but in the US almost any question is legal. Perhaps asking a question like “What is the best way to assassinate the President” comes close, and will draw attention by those looking for illegal activity. But it is, in itself, just a question.

The only instance of asking a question of certain types being prima facie illegal I can think of is asking a single question in a humorous way about terrorism or bombs at the TSA search at the airports. (Yet another problematic aspect of the TSA system, IMO.)

Similarly, if your question endangers the lives of people, it might be illegal (or at the very least you may be civilly liable). See: yelling, “HEY EVERYONE HAVE YOU SEEN THE AWESOME, HUGE FIRE IN THE THEATER LOBBY???!!!” and then causing a stampede.

But yeah, when in line at security in an airport, don’t say something like, “Have you guys found the bombs and weapons in my bag yet?”

I feel your pain. Same boat here and the staggering amounts you and I take scare me. Even more so with that chilling description

Minor nit pick, but I thought the LD 50 was the dose that kills 50% of recipients.

IANAL either, but I can’t help but think that asking the question, even with the word ‘suicide’ in it, could not itself be made ‘illegal’ simply because of the broad scope of the First Amendment.

However, I can say from experience that the second part is very likely to be true these days. A girl I knew was on the phone with a health club’s customer service agent who wasn’t being very helpful, kept talking in circles etc. till finally in frustration & anger my friend said something like, “Fine, I’ll just jump off a bridge!” and hung up. Few minutes later the cops show up and tell her she has to come with them to the psych ward, willingly or not (here’e my original thread, got closed cause, even though I tried not to, I was essentially asking for legal advice).

Suffice it to say that in today’s oh-so litigious society every business has to take any suicide references seriously, lest they get sued for inaction if it turns out to be real.

This is a zombie that ought to die.

To the OP’s question, it is a class E Felony in New York to aid a person who attempts suicide (120.30 ). I presume this is the case in most other states.

I’m pretty sure that asking certain questions about ethnic backgrounds, religion, etc. can be illegal under certain circumstances such as job hiring interviews. Other questions cold be considered sexual harassment and might be lillegal.

I’m sure that is the case in most places, but what constitutes “aiding a person”? If I tell you to try googling LD50 followed by your drug of choice, is that “aiding a person”? (Just tried it for Bisoprolol and Hydrodiuril, both of which I am on, and Chlorpromazine which I just picked out of the blue). IANAL, but I have difficulties believing pointing someone at a book will constitute “aiding a person”? Has anyone ever been charged under those circumstances?

True. I recall now that is illegal for a NYC (but not MTA) police officer to ask me for ID or any other questions related to my disability after he asks if my dog is a Service Dog, and I merely say yes.

Dude, your heart is in the right place, but if I were of a suicidal mindset due to hating the world or anything even similar to that, then seeing you trying to censor information from me from me would make me yet more determined.
