Is it in bad form to post that you have notified the moderators?

I was reading this thread when I saw this post, “Save the religious intolerance and abuse for GD, mmmkay?”

My initial gut reaction was “who made this guy a moderator!?”

This was followed by a minor hijack, then this, “I will not argue with you. The Mods have been notified and we will abide by their decision.”

I was under the impression that if you had an issue, it was in very bad form to post that you have notified a moderator. One should notify the mods and leave it at that. I do not recall reading any policy, but it has been discussed at a dope-fest.

I was thinking of pitting the guy, for bad form and for making a deal of what I felt to be a very minor incident, but I realized that I have done the same thing in the past. Also, he made a good point.

I have occassionally seen a moderator ask that people not indicate that they have reported a post. Whether this is official policy or not, I cannot say, however. FWIW, I do think it should be.

Official, no. Preferred, yes.

There can be lots of stuff that goes into a moderator decision, behind the scenes, and it’s usually best to keep that sort of thing quiet. No sense being embarrassed, or embarrassing someone else, by airing dirty laundry.

I think this is the kind of thing the OP had in mind. Shouldn’t we just report inappropriate posts and not comment on them?

I’m pretty sure Dex will see this thread whether you report it or not.
