I was listening to the radio the other day and I heard a clip from a speech by McCain. Something about the way he was speaking reminded me of something. I couldn’t put my finger on it at first, and then I realized: he reminded me of what happens when a British actor attempts to play an American for a British audience. I’ve heard the accent a couple times on various BBC shows and to me it sounds a bit off, as if they were going for a stereotype and not a real person.
Now I don’t mean this as a criticism of McCain, and I think he does sound like a real person, but for some reason, at least in the clip that I heard, his accent reminded me of the BBC version of an American accent.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Now I’m going to listen to his speech patterns more closely to see if this observation holds up.
