Is it just me or has there been a "backlash" against Cinco De Mayo?

It’s a bit commercialized.

What holiday in the U.S. hasn’t been commercialized by now? Memorial Day is coming up. “Let’s honor the memory of our brave men and women by getting 15% off plastic lawn furniture at Walmart!”

I was thinking a National Poutine Day.

But that’s entirely reasonable IMO, seeing an opportunity to educate people about their culture. that’s not the same as some bored, privileged white kids screaming “cultural appropriation” so they can feel better about having “done something.”

I can picture 9/11 becoming commercialized in the next 20-30 years.

It might, but there’s no certainty of it. Pearl Harbor Day, the equivalent from three generations earlier, did not.

And that’s exactly my point: that I don’t think it’s just overprivileged white SJWs who are taking this up, which is what some/many of the posts make it out to be.
