Is it just me, or is there an explosion of banned socks?

…I’ve been seeing what seems to me to be a large number of users with suspiciously doper-appropriate usernames getting quickly banned (I assume for being socks, since the vast majority of posts from these short-lived monikers contain no ban-worthy content).

Is there a particular former doper or three doing this? (Yes, of course, I expect a straightforward answer on this about as much as I expect the Bush administration to push a massive Gay Rights bill through Congress).

Is this why the two minute search BS still in effect?

Yes, there are more. Seems to be more this time of the year. Not sure why. People staying more indoors, perhaps, school schedules, something, something, but it’s always more of a deal as we go into the holiday season.

Is it just one person? No. If only it were that simple.

Just a fact of life around here, we have more and sometimes we have less. We throw them out when we find them.

Don’t Worry Tuba Diva, I always get socks this time of year too.

Heh. Mine got sousaphones on 'em. I should take a picture.

Eh, I’m pretty sure mine will be filled with lumps of coal this year…bah!

Thanks for the reply, TubaDiva!

I think **TubaDiva ** missed this part, just a reminder that guests can’t search and the bulk of the socks have been guest. The two minute search limit is unrelated to socks at least.

Something in the database appears to have made searching even harder since the server upgrade. This does not mean it is related to the server upgrade however. I suspect Jerry Davis would need to answer this part of your op.

Late insert: this thread (of course) attracted a sock, who was banned. His post, and the subsequent posts that quoted him, were caused to disappear from view.

This is why we really, really, discourage people from asking such question in public. An Arky and anyone else: if you have burning questions about banned posters, socks, and the like, PLEASE ask one of the Moderators in private email rather than posting something. The post just attracts these insects, and causes the moderators a bit of extra work.
