Is it just me or Mythbuster has lost its magic?

I really liked mythbusters. I probably watched all the episodes (at least I remember all the ones on Netflix). Now they had the new season. They fired the trio (and somehow they are back on the episode I am watching right now…). MY god, what the fork is wrong with that show?

For starters: The first myth is so full of variables. The set-up they made is… ridiculously poor. I mean, they are putting a monitor over a poorly made wooden stand. They didn’t even adapt the program aspect ratio to the monitor they used.

Then they put a wig on Kari. Which looks REALLY wiggy and fake. And Tory and Grant act all surprised and baffled.

The tip jar is also an over-complication - they would get way better results with… a piece of paper and a pencil!

And it goes on and on and on. Is it just me or the show is going downhill?

Ok, fair point about the tip jar - it separates money by gender. But it looks way too complicated.
Their test had way too many variables. Size of tip jar, how full it is, how does it look like… all that stuff.

They announced the “departure”/“firing” of the Build Team at the end of the latest season, so there hasn’t been any “just Adam & Jaime” Mythbusters yet (unless you count some of the very early episodes).

For me, I started to lose interest when they promoted the build team to full ‘Mythbusters’. To me, that was just wrong. Nothing against them, Kari is cute & smart, Tory the same, although Grant is often childishly, embarrassingly over enthusiastic. Plus I liked the original other blonde chick (Scotty?) better.

But they’re the build team, they’re the support players, the flunkies, not the stars (i.e. not Mythbusters). Adam & Jamie host and run every myth. The build team, well, builds shit and helps out. I just felt too many chefs spoiled the pot…

The one that cried all the time? I think she may have won a contest or something. She was absolutely terrible and was not mythbuster material at all.

Or the one with all the tats. I liked her. Supposedly, she wasn’t that comfortable in front of the cameras. Shame, that.

Certianly you can’t mean the overly fake, super breathy, omg-I’m-one-of-the-guys-but-so-cute Kari replacement. The one that they got to replace Kari when she was off having a baby. Man, that woman grated on my nerves.

I didn’t like the gender myths episode either. I believe Mythbusters generally tries to be educational, but this episode was just cheap and exploitative. “Hey, let’s have Keri run with big boobs!”

I also feel like they didn’t get to the potentially interesting aspects of the myths. For example, I’m not surprised that, all other factors being equal, a big-breasted barista make better tips than her small-breasted sister. She’ll get more attention, period. But will that cup size make up for competency and charm? Are coffee shops right (in terms of profitability, at least) to hire good-looking employees over experienced ones?

Also, unless I missed something, they never mentioned sexuality as a factor in the tests. Or did they just expect that an equal number of gay men and lesbians would show up in the sample groups?

Yeah, I meant the middle one, the blonde chick with the tattoos from the first season or two (pretty sure her name was Scotty). I don’t remember either of the other two mentioned…

I’ll take this opportunity to once again say how much I loathe the narrator guy, whoever he is.

Robert Lee

I’m pretty sure the magic was gone by season 5 or 6.

A few months ago, I caught up on Mythbusters on NetFlix and realized that I actually hadn’t missed anything. The good news is that NetFlix lets me fast forward to catch the 10 minutes of the show that doesn’t just re-repeat what they already said.
