In all seriousness, while his post was inartfully worded, I think his intent was to point out that African-American dominance in basketball in comparison to the lack of Cuban and Brazilian basketball players is due to cultural reasons not biological differences just as no one think Russian dominance of chess or Canadian dominance of hockey is due to biological differences.
I have been around enough to know when an attack is eminent. If I can take the dge off of his confidence before we actually go to blows it increases my chances of winning.

My point was that a black person who “confronts” someone “in a particularly threatening manner” in response to being called a “nigger” is far more likely to respond to being called that with violence than the overwhelming majority of African-Americans.
If you think I’m wrong just go up to members of the Bloods, the Crips, or the Vice Lords and say “hey Nigger” and see what happens.
Obviously, most African-Americans aren’t criminals and while they’d be offended by being called this probably wouldn’t react violently though most would be extremely offended unless they though you were either A)insane or B)joking.

Haven’t read the whole thread and looks like Rachellelogram has stopped posting, but I just wanted to put up my opinion that it is unabashadly racist to throw the word nigger around as an insult. If the guy was saying “hey what’s up nigga?” then I’d say no, not racist (even if one white person to another). If he was saying, “You fucking stupid nigger!” then yes that’s unabashadly racist.
I’m a lifelong gamer and consider video gaming to be a great hobby, but this is the exact reason I very, very rarely ever play online games except with personal friends. I absolutely cannot stand hearing faggot thrown around as an insult and when I call people on it I get, “oh I don’t mean anything against gay people! It’s just a word!” No, you’re just a thoughtless, careless biggot. It’s no different than using nigger as an insult. It inherently carries with it a sense of “black people are bad” and thus using a slur typically used against them against you must mean that you are just bad as them. It’s terrible and I hate it.
A reasonable response probably lies somewhere between a racial slur and sexual supplication. I would recommend against both of your suggest courses of action so far.
Further, if I (and most people, I believe) witness an altercation in which one party is screaming a racial slur, I’m far more likely to take the other party’s side. In addition, yelling a racial slur before committing violence (even defensive violence) will probably not go well for you in any potential subsequent legal action.
Were I a threatening person, and I consciously or inadvertently was intimidating someone, I would be more likely to take a shouted racial slur as “this is a racist douchebag who should be beaten” than “this is a strong person who I should not attack”.
It’s kind of mind-boggling that someone actually believes shouting a racial slur, in a particular situation, is less likely to result in injury.
Good idea to respond to a threat with a counter threat. Remember, a blackman can smell fear. Stand up taller, spread your arms and yell. This will effectively call his bluff (most of the threatening manners of a blackman are simply posturing) and establish you as the alpha dominant in the encounter.
I would do the same thing with any race, the question was about using the “n” word. When we are in a bad situation we get into fight or flight mode. If I happen to go into fight mode The last thing I an worrying about is hurting someones feelings.

I don't know what benefit you are seeing in turning this into a racial issue. Most animals, lizards, fish, primates etc. make themselves look larger and will often make noise to frighten and aggressor. It is a very primal thing and still effective. Obviously not 100% effective but we need to know how to pick our battles.
