I’ve had this large red orb spider living on my back porch for the last week. Every night, he builds his elaborate web and every morning he takes it down. I haven’t bothered him at all, since it’s getting colder and I want him to fill up before winter sets in.
So this spider made me wonder… animals with exoskeletons I suppose could overeat like any other creature, but can they actually become overweight? Does the exoskeleton grow if a spider or a crab’s stomach gets bigger? Or does the stomach get bigger on the inside and push other organs out of the way? Or is there just something physically keeping animals with exoskeletons from getting fatter than they should? Help, me SD… the Google does nothing.
