That is brilliant.
This is the problem with the whole Gerstmann review thing. Some people point out that Gerstmann’s video review and his written review don’t seem to be talking about the same game and then someone else comes back with “Nuh uh! I’ll show you a game getting a bad review!” and then link to a review from that hyperactive 12-year old Yahtzee.
Does anyone have a copy of the written review? I’d like to read it
Are you willing to share your site? Personally I don’t care much if a site takes a kickback on certain reviews. If I’m going to spend upwards of $60 on a game, I’ll certainly take the extra 2 minutes to check multiple sites to be sure the reviews are consistent. Besides, sites like Gamespot have user scores right under the reveiwer’s score, so if those numbers are far apart you know something’s up (whether it be payola or just a reviewer out of touch with the masses).
Also, how anyone can not love Yahtzee’s reviews is beyond me. I just don’t know why he doesn’t review good games more often. Certainly there have been other great games in the last decade besides Psychonauts, Portal, and Thief.
Actually, he has a lot of games he’s rated as being decent to good.
IIRC, he’s given positive reviews to both Bioshock and Assassin’s Creed, though he mentions the shortcomings they have.
He also liked FO3.
There’s more as well. It’s just comparatively, he tends to emphasize the flawed aspects of games, and the more flaws a game has, the more he’ll rail about it.
Yahtzee also loved COD4 and Saints Row 2. What I like about his reviews are that he does’t say, “This is a bad game (sometimes he does)” but, “This game is good for this and this, and if you like that sort of thing this game is for you.”
Agreed. Yahtzee has become just about the only reviewer I trust, or opinion I consider before buying a game. He tells you every little tiny thing wrong with the games, and that to me is helpful. Of course I’m going to have fun shooting space zombies in the face, but to know why I might not like it is infinitely more valuable.
What’s wrong with metacritic? Individual game reviews are so last century.
