Is it possible that MPSIMS moves too fast?

Well, yes and no. That is just one useful option. When you choose to move a thread, you have three options as a Mod:

  • Move thread
  • Move thread and leave redirect in previous forum (what is typically done)
  • Copy thread to destination forum

But it’s not mandatory that you choose any option over another. It’s a matter of Board policy only.

Odd. I clicked the quote button, and instead of showing your “wouldn’t it be nice” comment and then the quoted “drivel” text, it just showed the “wouldn’t it be nice” comment. As though quoting doesn’t quote quotes in the original quote.

If you understood that, you get a cookie!

Anyway,

Me likey that very much.

That’s what the software currently does, a new “feature” in vBulletin 2.x. Since this is the second time the question has been asked in ATMB, I suppose I should include it in the technical issues FAQ.

How much quote would a quotation quote, if a quotation could quote quotes?

Hey!

Say it, don’t spray it.

Cookies for Arnold and UncleBeer!

If you can’t hold your liquor, at least don’t spill your cookies on our esteemed mods!

I say we just create a new forum every time one of them accumulates 50 threads. That way no one ever moves to the second page.

Even with the remnant left in the original forum, moving threads would still help, since the moved thread isn’t being bumped in the old forum anymore.

I agree that a new forum is not necessary.

It seems that the mods are now more likely to move threads out of MPSIMS and into IMHO or CS or even the Pit, instead of letting them stay, which is a good thing (IMHO). I think this encourages people to be more careful about where they post threads in the first place.

It also seems that there are fewer post count parties, “welcome my friend” threads, and birthday threads than there have been in the past. That’s good, too, I think. (but I’m an old curmudgeon.)

Overall, I think that MPSIMS is, was, and always will be, the junk drawer of the SDMB. It’s where we throw stuff that has no other place. We don’t need more space. We need to be more organized. (and I think we’re moving in the right direction.)

If we were going to create any new fora, my vote would be for a second GQ-type forum.

On another note, I really like how the ghost of a moved thread sticks around for a while. It helps the interested reader find the moved thread.
