Is it safe for me to donate blood?

I once donated blood every time that I was able, I was on my second gallon. Eight years ago, for some reason, I was given a tine test and it swelled up real big. I was carted to the health department and had my chest x-rayed and I was given pills to take for a while. Afterward, they gave me a card to carry around that said all of this had been done. On my own, I decided that my blood would not be safe to donate. Is this assumption correct? I hate to walk past a blood drive.

You can ask the people at the blood donation center.

Tuberculin tine test

“Tine test”-is this for TB?
Because that’s what it sounds like.

Theoretically, after taking anti-TB drugs you are no longer infectious, and it’s highly unlikely to be in your blood. HOWEVER blood banks have their own rules because they have to be really careful, so it’s best to just ask them if someone with your history can donate.

These people will take you 12 months after taking your last dose of TB medication, but I’d check with your local centre.
