is it the end of the expiring auto warranty robocaller?

FTC to ban most telemarketing ‘robocalls’ Sept. 1

Not much to add except to say they should have made it a capital offense and that it’s about tiime.

Just have to wait and see how effective it is.

I’ve gotten almost no calls since the FTC crackdown in the spring. Before that is was hell.

Hell, just yesterday I got a call from the “Credit Protection Bureau” telling me that I could get a credit card with a low fixed rate.

And yes, I am on the Do Not Call list.

That’s kind of where I am with the wait and see thing. I’m on the DNC and still getting the calls. I can’t see where this has any more teeth than the DNC list.

Right. These people ignored the law before, they’ll continue to ignore it.

Ditto +1. This means nothing without enforcement.

I work from my home and have gotten well over a hundred “Credit Protection Bureau” calls on my landline, tho the auto warranty ones did indeed cease months ago. This plague was invariably during “normal business hours” or in the early evening but over the last 3 days, I’ve been phoned twice after 11:30 p.m. and once in the morning while I was still in bed, and felt I had no remedy but to disconnect the phone by my bedside. I’m hoping/praying this might mean the f*ckers were going nuts before the new legislation goes into effect but, like previous posters, am extremely dubious that things will change for the better.
I am not pro-death penalty, generally speaking, but, given the opportunity, I would without a moment’s hesitation shoot the brains behind these robocall operations just there … in their brains

Many folks in my professional community (other insurance agents) use robodialers to prospect for new business. Cold calling, but somehow even more irritating. They’ve been hit with restrictions before and have found ways around them, but they’re calling this one the death of this type of marketing. For what it’s worth, it looks like people running the dialers are taking this one much, much more seriously than previous rulings.

(And no, I don’t use a dialer. I find them interruptive and annoying.)

The only thing wrong with the new law is that it allows for too many exemptions. I really doubt that we’ll ever see politicians voting for a ban on political telemarketing, but I tell you, during election season we just don’t even bother to pick up the phone, we let it go to the answering machine most of the time.
