Why did this “racist” twist arms in Congress so hard to get the Civil Rights Act passed? If he was such a racist he would have let things be, but he did the right thing even though he correctly predicted it would cost Democrats the South for generations.

You got to wonder what kind of president it would take, after Trump, to make people think, “Say you like about Trump, but at least he…”

And welcome to the Straight Dope, Bruiser1036 .
You’ll want to learn to indicate your irony a little more clearly, otherwise you run the risk of never being taken seriously.

There is a very thoughtful and interesting article on the newfound liberal romanticizing and respect for George W. Bush that has been outpouring this year, in the early stages of Trump’s presidency.
I’m not a liberal, but I’m also not a Bush fan, and I do find it kind of hypocritical and bizarre for all the liberal Trump detractors all over the country to be blathering about how much they want Dubya back, seeing as how they hated his guts (for some reasons justified and not). Earlier this year, Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said she “never thought I would pray for the day that [George W. Bush] were president again.”
What are your thoughts on all the left-wing hosannas that we have been seeing for Dubya recently?
Let me know when Trump starts a war that results in hundreds of thousands of deaths.
Trump is mostly offensive and embarrassing, his death toll is probably only in the hundreds.

Well, they haven’t passed the AHCA yet. That’ll added a few tens of thousands a year to the tally.
