Is it wrong to publish people's home addresses in a catalogue?

Oh hell no. No personal ID information should ever leave your hands unless you have a large legal budget.

My neighborhood association publishes a handbook of everyone’s name, address, and phone number in our neighborhood. It’s supposed to be used by the homeowners only but they also have a copy online. (duh!) I opted to leave my name and number out of the directory.

Several years ago one of those “city directory” people (not the phone book) were going door-to-door soliciting information about the homeowners to publish in their directory. I found my full name, address, and unlisted phone number in the book. That is when I discovered they had assholes go door-to-door and my NEIGHBORS had given them my information. I was seething with anger.

In my job, I have the pleasure of meeting some unsavory types every once in a while and I don’t always make everyone happy. The last thing I want is to have my name and addy published somewhere.
