Look, I live in Lake County, Illinois. One of the most populated county’s in the country. There is no reason for this.
I’m not saying close the borders to such and such people (mexicans), but tooooo everrrybody!
Of course the city’s need to make money by taking on more tax payers but for cryin’ out loud dammit, the roads are just not up to it. Look there is just no more room left in this county! So…Stay the fuck out!
We don’t need anymore fuckin’ Housing developments, no more strip malls, no more fast food chains here.
I don’t want to travel 10 miles in 30 minutes in the morning to work.
I know what your sayin’, “So if it’s to crowded, move somewhere else!”. Uh… Fuck that shit, I was here first.
I’m just sayin’, there’s a reason why Buses and elevators and capacity limits. Can’t city’s and county’s have em’ too?
Well, people don’t (typically) give birth while on buses and elevators either - so if you want to keep people in Lake County from giving birth too, you’ll have a better shot at getting what you want.
(Anyone else having visions of the Native Americans shaking their fists at the Europeans arriving via boat, and complaining about how crowded it’s getting? )
First off, Farmer, stick your head out the door and see if you see me waving. I grew up in Lake County and am hanging out at my parents’ house.
Also, there certainly is plenty of undeveloped land in Lake County, but it’s being gobbled up by strip malls and bigger-than-thou developments. Ever been out by Northbrook or Lincolnshire or Mundelein? Plenty of open lots to eat up, in the developers’ infinite wisdom. If there’s a maximum occupancy limit, we’ve not hit it. In fact, it seems to be that most of the traffic problems come from poor urban planning and a willingness to just put roads and malls and movie theaters where they may fall.
It sort of looks like a spastic five-year-old shook a cup of Monopoly houses and hotels over a Lake County map.
Looks like it’s only going to get worse. The suburbs are sprawling at a Big Bang rate.
Ferret Herder: There’s nothing wrong with people reproducing, personally, I’m all for it. I’m saying the county should stop people from moving into an already overcrowded county.
KneadtoKnow: Yeah you do. Who was hear before the American Indians? What? They just magically appeared in North America? Who’d they take it from? Mkay! But that’s whole 'nother debate.
Duck Duck Goose: That’s the problem. Everybody and their brother want’s opportunity. But it’s reached it’s limit and it’s about to split.
Daowajan: Your probably right about that. The roads are just horrible. Every main road is a fuckin’ single road. The main high-ways are 41 and 94. But come on, for the current conditions, maybe we should ban people from movin’ in until roads get better.
Everything you try to do is just bottle necked by overcrowding. It’s not just Lake County, I just use it as an example as I can’t really relate to other area’s.
actually, countys etc have quite a bit of power to regulate growth. Zoning use permits, building permits etc all have to be approved.
If you don’t like the amount of growth you’re seeing in your area, I suggest that you contact your local governing authorities (the smaller levels are better).
I suspect that you may be in the minority opinion on this topic in your area, though. (they’re all against you. Mwhahahaha)
Barring any development in Lake County seems kinda reactionary. How about taking the property tax revenue that’s mushrooming from new residents and broadening the damn roads?
Oh, right, because a fair lot of them moved out here in the first place to be closer to nature. Yeah dude, an endless march of honking, smoking traffic in your yard sure beats giving up a chunk of your yard.
Say you’re area of living has a max capacitiy of X,XXX,999. And your property owner X,XXX,998. Then the next property owner becomes X,XXX,999 then that’s it! No more people! Go to the next town that hasn’t reached it’s limit.
Reproducing would be ok because the new ones would replace the old ones and life goes on.
At least one town I know of here (Wadsworth, is case you wanted to know) has some kind of good zoning rules. It’s like this: Your yard must be 1 acre or larger. That’s kick ass. So atleast those looking for “nature”, can enjoy there space a little bit. Once the acreage is gone, well that’s it, go somewhere else!
Just incase someone starts saying discrimination (I can picture this getting out of hand): I don’t care who lives here, whites, blacks, yellows, purples, gays, poor or rich. Once it’s full, it’s full.
I would think more people would be in favor of this, I mean come on NY’ers, how’s your commute? LA? Not only big city’s. All city’s. Spread out, there’s plenty of room.
What about them. The state would still generate the same amount.
City’s and town’s would still be fine too. Sure the city would generate less money because no one is moving in anymore. But they wouldn’t need it as much. Why? Less people of course.
Farmer - how do you come up with the capacity number?
that’s the issue.
It may have been that your area was semi rural or single family dwelling for most of your years there, then those in charge decided to change zoning to multiple family dwellings etc.
Areas often change. Hell, when I was a kid, the tract across the street from me was all undeveloped land. Now, there’s barely an undeveloped lot in the entire county. and, in case you think ‘well, there ya go, it’s at capacity’, most of the tracts are single family dwellings, substantially more folks can be loaded in if they rezone to multiple family and build apartment buildings/condos etc.
yes, and then probably they’d have to upgrade the sewer system etc.
But, like I said, you don’t like it? elect different officials. run for office. etc.
I’d really like to see some sites on who was here before the Native Americans, seeing as I’ve always learned that they were the first ones here–at least, that’s what I’ve heard from all the reputable sources I’ve encountered. Perhaps they took it from the geese?
As for the crowding–well, I totally understand. I’m in Kane County, and every day the 'burbs seem to stretch out just a little bit further. It’s maddening. Don’t think we can keep people from coming in and out of a county or city, though. I’m pretty sure it violates some inherent right or some such. 'Course, you could buy up the entire county and declare it your own private property…
According to them, Lake County, IL, with a population of approximately 661,111 population density of a whopping 1,439.7 persons per square mile.
On the other hand, Queens County, NY, where I live, has a population of 2,224,516, for an average density of 20,409 persons per square mile, making it more than fourteen times as dense as Lake County.
And just for giggles, New York County (aka Manhattan), where I work, has a population of 1,541,150 and a total area of about 23 square miles, yielding a population density of 66,940 persons per square mile, or very nearly forty-seven times the density of Lake County.
So, you are humbly invited to:
A. Retract your ridiculous claim that Lake County, IL is one of the most populated counties in the country, and
