A poster previously warned and banned for having a great majority of posts on a single topic: Jack Dean Tyler. JDT reached 267 posts before SDMB staff snipped him. jamiemcgarry is at 625 posts now; 21 posts per day, most dealing with being disabled.
In my opinion, no, he isn’t. In jamiemcgarry’s first two weeks or so, he did post almost exclusively about disability issues. He’s now getting into conversations and starting threads about other topics. Jack Dean Tyler came and went before my time here, but I’d argue there is a difference between posting obsessively about one thing, as JDT did in re: circumcision, and posting about a variety of related issues, as jamiemcgarry has with subjects related to disabilities. It’s something he’s interested in for obvious reasons. He’s started 25 threads and I would say about a third of them are related to disability issues. It looks like more because some of them, especially the one about airplanes and the one about parking spots, were so long.
I was around when JDT was active, and I think the comparison is both incorrect and very unfair. JDT wasn’t banned so much for being a one-trick-pony but for trolling and being thoroughly obnoxious about his pet subject. He was in an entirely different league from jamiemcgarry.
I don’t agree with him on all matters regarding disability (as is probably evident from my postings in his threads) and he is a little “emphatic” at times :D, but I wouldn’t fault his board postings in general; they are interesting and a lot more sensible than a lot of postings on the SDMB (NOT referring to the OP).
There’s a rule about personal agendas? Gee - I guess maybe I’ll have to break down and read the rules some day.
Yes, I saw the OP. I wasn’t questioning the existence of the clause in the agreement, just expressing surprise (and trying to be somewhat facetious - I guess that didn’t work).
I don’t think he’s anywhere close. His disability related threads were pretty varied. I found them interesting. Many others did also judging by the length.
As a person who is functionally equivalent to a mod on a different board, I tend to overexplain in response to posts like yours. I get the facetiousness, but I if one person is admitting to surprise, there may be ten or fifteen who are now curious just what the rules say.
I’m glad I didn’t read that thread. Anyway that’s a better (fictional) example of the kind of thing we’re trying to prevent with the personal agenda rule. Everybody has interests. We just don’t want obnoxious people to use every thread to discuss their interests or promote their agenda. Ideally we want posters to have a give and with the SDMB community rather than treating them as a captive audience for their screeds.
