Is John Edwards' Career Over?

I don’t see him volunteering to scrub toilets.

I told all ya’ll bitches (kidding) three years ago what a slimy, lying, scumbag, son of a bitch he was. Woo Hoo! Boy, am I ever Mr. Smarty Britches!

Yeah, he’s done, and not a moment too soon. (I say that as a former enthusiastic supporter.) The affair and the paternity denials are bad enough, but getting his aide to claim that the kid was his was beyond the pale. I don’t think he can come back from that.

I hope that his desire to solve the problems associated with poverty was genuine, and that he’ll be able to use his considerable fortune and his remaining influence to support those causes behind the scenes. But as a political personality, he’s through.

I think he has only one chance - become a Republican. Cheating on his cancer-ridden wife hasn’t seemed to hurt Newt very much.

So, why is SHE so awful? I haven’t heard any dirt about her. Do tell.

To answer the OP, Because he is a liberal, sure he can get away with anything. Just look at Nixon being told the world would end if he was impeached, but when ONLY Bill Clinton WAS impeached, it was reported as a minor all political move and nothing historic at all.

Much much worse was Ted Kennedy literally getting away with murder, leaving scene, and all that and it was just glossed over as a typical party night in Mass. He ran again, so yes this scumbag could too, hopefully not win.

I’m not sure a single word in here is correct. I’m even skeptical of “the.”

The affair is one thing, but denying his child took it to a different level of bad character, in my view.

After Elizabeth is gone, I can just maybe see John rehabbing himself. Remember, the further you fall, the more you stand to gain by repenting. He could work his way back into the public’s good graces through charitable or social action. Why? Because time passes.

Never bet against the American way of forgetting. We pride ourselves on not looking back and on forgiveness. In fact, we’re much more forgiving of dishonesty than of simple incompetence, because dishonesty often gets things done.

I take it you’ve convinced yourself the reports were wrong, then?

Stick a fork in him, I think he’s done.

We live in a digital age. All those, and there were many, repeated denials are on film. His child will one day see them. The awareness of that, creeps people out in the extreme, in my opinion.

10, 20, 30 years from now, no matter how repentant, that’s still going to be the case.

These actions, rightly, make him the scum of the earth, and this story will, rightly, stick to him like gum to the cat.

Nixon would have been convicted in the Senate. Many in his own party would have been forced to vote him out. That was never much of a possibility for Clinton. Remember it takes a super-majority in the Senate to convict.

As long as he’s willing to man up and say “It’s none of your business.” But he lied extensively, and involved others in his lies. It thus becomes quite ridiculous to say it’s a private matter.

Yes.

One can be disbarred for moral turpitude, but it’s fairly uncommon for a disbarment for an affair, even one that results in a child.

Speak for yourself, Ralph. I’ve known quite a few ethical ones, myself.

Would you Rhode Islanders? :dubious:

Gee, one of your favorite politicians managed to, with something worse than an affair and an illegitimate child, right?

Has this been alleged? (Not snark; I haven’t been following the story, and am genuinely curious.)

North Carolina

There’s no law against lying about private matters. It’s not news for a guy to lie about cheating on his wife. Millions of people do it every day.

It’s in that new book Game Change. Apparently, the people on the campaign really, really hated her. Of course, she might have known that John was banging his floozy, so it’s hard to judge her behavior.

He’s not a private person. He gave that up when he chose to run for president. Sorry if that bothers you.
